ARMA or BATTLEFIELD?

Or are they even remotely comparable? Thinking of getting ARMA 3.

Re: ARMA or BATTLEFIELD?

ARMA 3 isn't a bad game. However, it is more complicated than Battlefield. Where Battlefield is more linear with ground soldiers, tanks, and airplanes, ARMA is more open. If you do get ARMA 3, just be aware that there are a lot of life servers like Altis Life.

Yea, Arma is a very complex game. It takes a while to learn it. Comparing to Battlefield it's slow and not made for 'just playing a quick round'. But if you have a good group to play with, some good mods, it's one of the best, if not already the best military simulations around.

Life servers are basically roleplaying servers where you play as an average civilian that tries to make money by doing either good things like driving cabs or bad things like dealing drugs. There are gangs, cops, and a lot of weird people. It's a good mod, but it's a lot more popular than regular servers in the game.

Re: ARMA or BATTLEFIELD?

Yes, they are populated. The one I go on has a maximum of 90 players, and it does get full sometimes.

Re: ARMA or BATTLEFIELD?

I love the military sandbox games. Insurgency game mode. Just go on patrol and see what is going to happen. Interact with civilians, fight insurgents, I love it. Tried to run a server with a buddy of mine. Unfortunately, it didn't work out that well. I guess there is a significant difference between gaming servers and dedicated servers when it comes to modding. We wanted to run the Bundeswehr Mod and Alive and we had problems from day one.

Try joining any of the two 77th JSOC servers in Arma 3. They won't let you leave base without joining a active group. No lone wolfing. Everyone has to follow orders.

Sounds intense haha. Sometimes it is nice to lone wolf though, usually if its in Battlefield I'm lone wolfing cause no one else follows orders haha irony.
But I wish I could find good teammates in BF.

It will be a short round in ArmA then wink It's a military simulator and it will easily kick your butt. I wish I had a few people to conduct operations in ArmA.

The best time I had in ArmA was with a team I joined eight years ago or so. Brits, Danes, Dutch, Norwegians, Americans, and Swedes. It was awesome, as we had someone who was amazing at editing missions, one hell of a pilot, a few people who were in the military, and it was still fun and relaxed. Unfortunately, for three years, I was touring Germany for training and the clan dissolved in the meantime.

Re: ARMA or BATTLEFIELD?

That sucks. Just so you know, I've got ArmA 1-3, so one day if I'm available, maybe we could do a few operations.

Re: ARMA or BATTLEFIELD?

I don't really think they compare.  Battlefield is good for an online larger scale adversarial game. It's got the potential to be a great experience, but I can't stand how it's played in the mainstream. The maps are small as well, at least for jets.

Arma is everything I want from Battlefield, but it isn't as mainstream, and can take some work to find a group to play with.  It can be as hard it light on the milsim as you want.  You can play adversarial, or cooperative on a grand scale. You can create scenarios, or even use Zeus to run a game almost like a milsim D&D, with a game master spawning new enemy units and setting new objectives and such.  It's really got great replayability.

I personally prefer Arma for that reason.

Re: ARMA or BATTLEFIELD?

I have to agree with Guardian. While it can be hard to find a squad to play with in Arma, and it can get a little laggy with a lot of people on a server, you can't beat Arma's modability (new missions, islands, vehicles, weapons, sounds, scripting, all made by the community). And, Arma has co-op, which is all I need in a game these days.
